Top 5 Fall Hikes Near Marble Canyon
If you’re visiting Marble Canyon this fall, make sure to bring your hiking shoes, this area is full of trails that showcase the stunning desert landscape in its best light. Cooler weather and lighter crowds make fall one of the best times to explore on foot. Whether you're looking for a peaceful river walk, a challenging climb, or a quick scenic stroll, there’s something here for everyone.
Here are five of our favorite trails, all just minutes from Marble Canyon Lodge:
1. Lee’s Ferry River Walk
An easy, scenic stroll along the Colorado River, this trail is a great introduction to the area. You’ll walk alongside towering red cliffs and maybe spot a few fishing boats launching from the historic Lee’s Ferry site. It’s peaceful, flat, and great for families or anyone who wants to stretch their legs without a big climb.
2. Cathedral Wash Trail
This one’s for the more adventurous. Cathedral Wash is a semi-technical slot canyon hike that takes you down through layers of sandstone, with stunning rock formations at every turn. The trail eventually leads to the river, but be prepared for some scrambling. Proper shoes and confidence on uneven surfaces are a must, but the reward is worth it.
3. Spencer Trail
Looking for a challenge? Spencer Trail is a steep, exposed climb that gains over 1,500 feet in under 2 miles. It’s not for the faint of heart, but the panoramic views from the top are incredible, sweeping across Marble Canyon, Glen Canyon, and the Colorado River below. If you’re up for the workout, this is your view.
4. Lonely Dell Ranch / Paria River Trail
Start your hike at the historic Lonely Dell Ranch near Lee’s Ferry. In fall, the trees here glow with golden leaves, and if you time it right, you might even catch the orchard’s apples and pears at their ripest. You can explore the ranch grounds or follow the Paria River Trail upstream for a peaceful walk along the water.
5. Marble Canyon Lodge Water Tower Trail
A short and sweet option, this .5-mile trail starts right from the property and ends at the ruins of historic water towers overlooking the canyon. It’s flat, easy, and perfect for catching sunset views without having to drive anywhere. Bring your coffee or camera, or both.
Pack Your Layers and Hit the Trail
No matter which hike you choose, fall is the perfect time to get out and explore. Just don’t forget to bring water, sturdy shoes, and a light jacket. Desert mornings can be chilly, even with the sun out.
And when you’re done? Head back to the lodge for soft serve, coffee, or a well-earned rest. You’ve earned it.
